Book Snob Book Tag

This is me with a bunch of books to show I read anything and everything. Also, I miss the library. Come back to me soon, library. I need you, baby.

I saw this post over on Kathryn’s blog, and I knew I just had to do it because it seemed like such fun. Here is her post if you wish to see how she answered the tag.

Adaptation Snob: Do you always read the book before you see the movie?
I try, but it does not work out that way all of the time. There have been times I have seen a movie and then watched the book. Or I will see a movie is being made so I read the book first, which is what this question asks. I think it all depends on which one I am exposed to first. I don’t mind seeing the movie first and then comparing though. I think sometimes people get too intense about it, but I am happy either way.

Format Snob: You can only choose 1 format in which to read books for the rest of your life. Which one do you choose: physical books, ebooks, or audiobooks?
I would choose physical because I like how they feel in my hands. It would also be hard to read to Ever as well since he has so many books. I enjoy all formats so it makes me sad to have to choose.

Ship Snob: Would you date or marry a non-reader?
Yes. Ethan has dyslexia so he doesn’t read. He is very happy they have made that open dyslexic font though, and I’m hoping when he has more time, he can get an ereader and utilize the font to be able to enjoy books more.

Genre Snob: You have to ditch one genre – never to be read again for the rest of your life. Which genre do you choose?
Space books. I cannot do it. I get so bored, and I end up getting mad at the book. All the books about space can stay far away from me because find them so darn boring. Good for you if you like them, but I just cannot.

Uber Genre Snob: You can only choose to read from one genre for the rest of your life. Which genre do you choose?
Thriller and mystery. Because those can be like medical or police procedural which I love so much. I watch those types of shows mainly so it would just translate well to books. I could just read all of the police procedural thriller mysteries…especially those set in the UK… and give me all of the medical thrillers. But I also love domestic thrillers so it works out for me.

Community Snob: Which genre do you think receives the most snobbery from the bookish community?
I think romance and YA. I feel like people just think romance is the same thing and the books have a lot of sex or are just stupid. Or that historical romance is just about swooning women and strong men, but they are not. Romance tells stories about people and shows so many sides of the world. It is much more than just love stories, and I wish people would read them instead of saying things just because they cant take the time to pick up a book ad find out. YA is great, but some adults say they are just for teens and can be stupid. But I think these people are often just not reading the right stories. YA can be diverse, complex, and interesting. There is always room for it to be better, but it is pretty awesome to me.

Snobbery Recipient: Have you ever been snubbed for something that you have been reading or for reading in general?
I read in my house and post about it online so I don’t think so really. No one has ever like been rude about it online. Ethan makes fun of some of the romance covers though saying they all look the same, but I think he just likes to give me a hard time.

I tag anyone who wants to do this, and I would love to see your answers. This was really fun, and I should start doing more tags again because I missed sharing some things you may not know about me and my reading.

Valentine’s Day Book Tag

Today is my 28th birthday. I’ll just be spending time with my partner and tiny human. There will also be pizza. And I’m finally getting a new iPhone. Life is good. Didn’t know what else to post so I thought a book tag would be fun.

This is the Valentine’s Day Book Tag is from Epic Reads.

Here are the questions:
1. First Book Crush – Logan from The Babysitters Club. I thought having a boyfriend like him would be the coolest thing in the world.

2. What book would you want as your Valentine?

This is my favorite book ever, and it just really makes me happy.

3. Candy Hearts or Chocolate?

Image result for gif chocolate

4. What book would you gift to your true love?

Ethan isn’t a big reader, but we both love Mr Rogers so I’d give him this book.

5. Favorite Rom-com

The last favorite one I watched was Morning Glory.

6. Best Valentine’s Day gift you ever received (or want to receive)

I’m getting the new Sarah J Maas book, and I’m excited about that. It’s my birthday so it’s never really been about Valentine’s Day per se.

7. Favorite thing about Valentine’s Day (if you love it) OR favorite thing to do on Valentine’s Day (if you hate it)

Eating food with my partner and just being together. This year I’ll also get to spend it with Ever and Buddy. I’m so excited.

Today I’ll be enjoying my birth. But I’ll be back in Sunday to share my last TWO weeks of reading. Did I read a lot?! Possibly. You’ll have to come back to find out.

Merry Christmas!… See you next year!/ ‘Tis the Season Book Tag [Blogmas]

Merry Christmas 🎁🎄!!

So I didn’t know what to do for Christmas Day since I’ll be busy so I was lazy and did a Tag. I forgot where I found this. Oops. But it’s not mine, and I found it online.

Do you have a favorite winter read?

I don’t have a book I read each season. I just read whatever is new or catches my attention. I have been enjoying all the Christmas books I read to Ever though. They’re so cute and fun.

Find a book with blue on the cover!

Oooh, this is easy. I just finished this one, and it’s so cute. I love how Raina draws, and I’d pick up anything by this author. She’s even redoing The Babysitters Club, which is awesome.

Find a book you’d use as the star on a Christmas tree!

I don’t know what I’d use… but I can imagine I would not mind seeing one of my favorite books of the year at the top. This pretty lady of a book:

Pick one fictional place that would be perfect for a winter vacation!

Anywhere warm and quiet. With WiFi. Honestly I would love to live in elfhame when it’s peaceful and warm. That’s all I want. And the magic to have WiFi.

Pick one fictional character you’d take with you on your winter vacation!

Cardan Greenbriar. He’d be so much fun. 😉

Name one book on your wishlist this year!

The set of Folk of Air books because I don’t own them yet.

Favorite holiday drink, treat, and movie?

I’m addicted to vanilla soy eggnog this season.

I could eat my weight in cookies. Sugar cookies with frosting or sprinkles. Both is better though.

My favorite holiday movie is The Santa Clause.

I made it through Blogmas. I had a lot of fun. I want to enjoy the holiday with my family so I’ll be taking a break until the new year. It’s Ever’s first Christmas so I want to bask in all of it. I’ll be sure to share some photos of him opening presents. Here are some more from his Christmas photos that are too cute not to share.

See you next year. Have a great holiday!

End of the Year Book Tag [Tag Post]

I saw this going around so I thought it would be fun to do.

Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish?

There are so many books I need to finish. I have four right now I should finish before the new year. I just keep watching Hulu and wasting time on Twitter though. I don’t know if I’ll ever learn, honestly. I just need to use my phone and Twitter less. All of that stuff will be there when I’m done, but no hold Library books won’t be. I guess I’ll be finishing Queen of Nothing soon, so that’s a series I started I’ll be actually finishing this year. I’m excited about the end, it’s been a tough time waiting. I’m ready though.

Do you have an autumnal book to transition into the end of the year?

No. I just read what I want. Though I did start reading Christmas romance books from NetGalley in September which shifted gears to being like, well… the end of the year is coming. Kind of, I guess? How much does that count though?

Is there a new release you’re still waiting for?

The new release I’m waiting for is the latest SJM book, but this will not be released til next year. I’m also waiting for my hold on the new Ali Wong book to come through.

What are three books you want to read before the end of the year?

All the books I’m currently reading at the moment. It’s four, and I know I’ll get them done. I’m reading Split Second by Kasie West, The Queen of Nothing, Know My Name, and The Most Fun We Ever Had. I just need to focus and read, not waste my time online.

Is there a book you think could still shock you and become your favourite book of the year?

I’ve already added The Queen of Nothing to my favorite shelf on Goodreads…

Have you already started making reading plans for 2020?

I have a blog post about some reading goals. I’m also still deciding on the number of books for the Goodreads Challenge.

I tag anyone who wants to do this, so if you’re reading this, do it. I’d love to see your answers.

The Christmas Song Book Tag [Blogmas]

Yet another tag post… I’m lazy, but this one is a lot of fun. Trust me.

1- “You’re a Mean One, Mr Grinch” – Name a Villainous Character You Couldn’t Help But Love.

Oh, my goodness. I love Villains. A lot. So let’s not let me get carried away from the point by going on and on about Villains. It’s hard to narrow done one I love, but I think I’ve got it. Hear me out… The Darkling. Yes, I know he’s not very original and lots of people hate him. He’s terrible. But I just love him a lot.

2- “All I Want For Christmas Is You” – Which Book Do You Most Hope To See Under Your Christmas Tree.

I’m not expecting to get any books for Christmas because of our financial situation, but I’d love to get all of the Cassandra Clare books I don’t have. Also, the special editions of the Folk of Aire series from Waterstones. In my dreams… haha.

3- “Rudolph, The Red Nosed Reindeer” – Name a Character That Overcomes Major Obstacles and Learns To Believe in Themselves.

Growth is so important! I want to say Theo from Ash Princess. She went from being the prisoner of the Kaiser to working to reclaim Astrea. She was beaten down and shamed often. She lost her mother and her people, but she learns to believe in herself. I’m excited for the last book to see how the trilogy completes. I can’t wait to see her strength shine through.

4- “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”: a) Which character do you think would be on the top of the naughty list? b) Which character do you think would be at the top of the nice list?

The top of the naughty list? Victor Vale from Vicious. I love him so hard, but he’s done a lot of bad things.

The nice list? Can I cheat and say Elmo from Sesame Street? He is so sweet and Ever loves the heck out of him.

5“Frosty the Snowman”: Which book just melts your heart.

I don’t remember the last time I cried from a book or just went squee. Yikes. The only book I really cried over was The Fault in Our Stars, but that was a long time ago. Some of the picture books I read to Ever melt my heart. Does that count?

6“Feliz Navidad”: Choose a book that takes place in a country other than your own.

I just picked up a Christmas book that takes place in Ireland. I forgot the title, but I’m excited to have a sweet Christmas read.

7- “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”: Which holiday themed book do you use to spread the Christmas joy?

Well, I don’t have the right words to say for this because I don’t have books to share. Ever has a cute Christmas book about Sesame Street though.

8“Sleigh Ride”: Which fictional character would you choose to spend the holidays with (doesn’t have to be a love interest!)?

This is so hard to pick, but I think I just have to go with…. Maven Calore from Red Queen. I know he’s totally evil… but he’s my favorite and I want him to be my love interest. But like grown up. I feel like he’d be into some kinky shit, and I’m cool with that.

9- “Baby it’s Cold Outside”: Which book that you didn’t like would you sacrifice to a fire to warm yourself up in the cold?

Most of Colleen Hoover’s books. I don’t know why I keep reading them. Just burn them all honestly.

10- “Do you hear what I hear”: Which book do you think everyone should read?

Know my Name by Chanel Miller. She’s a rape survivor, and I just think it’s such a beautiful book everyone should read.

I’m tagging anyone who wants to do this tag (if you haven’t yet)!

Holly Jolly Christmas Tag [Blogmas]

Found on Mama Kats Losin It.

It’s another day of Blogmas, and I’m enjoying doing tags. I haven’t been reading a lot, but I’m excited for changes coming to my blog in 2020. Nothing major, but I’ll be sharing a post about it closer to the new year with more information.

I found this Holly Jolly Christmas Tag, and I thought it would be a lot of fun to share some things about me that aren’t just book related. I like this tag a lot, and it’d be fun to see other friends do the questions so I tag anyone who wants to do this.

1. Favorite Christmas Movie?

My favorite Christmas movie is either the Santa Clause with Tim Allen or Annabelle’s Wish. These are my favorite ones from childhood, and I don’t think I could ever feel as happy about movies as when I watch these because of nostalgia. I do like Ion Christmas movies, but we don’t have normal television hooked up so I’m not watching those this year sadly.

2. Are you on the Naughty list or the Nice list?

I think I’m pretty nice, I don’t do a lot that’s naughty except watch television instead of reading. And sometimes I procrastinate on reading NetGalley books, or I just wait to do chores til the last minute.

3. Show us an embarrassing Christmas photo.

I don’t have any, but I have some photos from the Christmas ones we did this year.

My face looks stupid in this photo.

4. Have you ever had a White Christmas?

I live in Wisconsin so it does snow a lot of the time. I like snow on Christmas, but I’m ready to move away from the cold.

5. Do you start your Christmas shopping on Black Friday or wait until the last minute?

I have a small list so it’s usually done in December.

6. If you could be in any Christmas movie what would it be?

White Christmas. I just love the feel of the movie.

8. Name all of Santa’s reindeer.

Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, and Blitzen. Rudolph.

9. When does your family put up your Christmas tree and who decorates it?

I haven’t had a Christmas tree in awhile… 🤷🏻‍♀️

10. Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

I think we’re doing real this year, but I’m not sure yet.

12. Peeking at gifts or be surprised?

I’m too impatient, I need to know ASAP.

13. Show us your ugly Christmas sweater if you have one.

I don’t have one yet.

14. If you could be under the mistletoe with anyone who would it be?

Morgan Wallen.

15. Does your family have a special holiday recipe you like to help make?

Nope. I’m boring.

16. Are you a pro-present wrapper, or do you fail miserably?

I like gift bags.

17. Have you ever gone Christmas caroling?

Sounds like a nightmare.

18. What tops your tree?

I don’t have a tree.

19. Do you make New Years Resolutions? Do you stick to them?

Nope. Just no.

20. You have been granted one Christmas wish…what will it be?

All of our debt vanishes and we’re financially comfortable.

I tag anyone who wants to do this, I’d love to see your answers.

Festive Christmas Book Tag [Blogmas]

Found on Kristen Kraves Books

1. A fictional family you would like to spend Christmas dinner with?

That’s a great question. I don’t know if I have one since I’m weird about family things. The only one I can think of is the Weasley family. It just seems like it would be a lot of fun even though I’m quiet. Sometimes the chaos is enjoyable, even if you’re not a part of it.

2. A bookish item you would like to receive as a gift?

A new book sleeve. Or anything from Book Beau. I love that shop so much.

3. A fictional character you think would make a perfect Christmas elf?

Dobby. I can’t think of another answer.

4. Match a book to it’s perfect Christmas song.

Let’s see… I would have to say Last Christmas by Wham! Matched to Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin. Re: Rachel and Dex in the beginning when they try to deny their feelings and I thought they would never be together. God, I love that book so much.

5. Bah Humbug. A book or fictional character you’ve been disappointed in and should be put on the naughty list?

Rob Ryan from In The Woods. He’s one of the worst characters I’ve read. Also that trash baby book, Girl Wash Your Face full of that white feminism garbage. That book is horrible. It should be burned and never read.

6 – A book or a fictional character you think deserves more love and appreciation and deserve to be put on the nice list?

Rachel from Something Borrowed. She’s made into the bad person because of the situation in the book… but she’s fantastic. Seriously, these are some of my favorite books ever. I really should reread them next year.

7 – Red, Gold and Green. A book cover that has a wonderfully christmasy feel to it.

This is my favorite Christmas book I read this year. It’s so cute.

8. A book or series you love so much, you want everyone to find under their Christmas tree this year so they can read it and love it too?

Everyone should read Something Borrowed and Something Blue by Emily Giffin. Do it. They are so good. Even though I read them in high school, I still love them now.

I tag anyone who wants to do this. 🥰 I’d love to see your answers as well.

Bookish Naughty or Nice List [Blogmas]

The prompt of the day for this was book covers with red and green. I’m terrible at taking my own photos with the current camera I have so I thought I would do a book tag instead. I stole this tag from Ali @ Tea and Turned Pages. This may be my favorite book tag of the year because I can share whether I’m naughty or nice when it comes to books.

Here are the prompts! And I left a clean one down below so you can do this yourself if you feel so inclined.

• Received an ARC and not reviewed it

Oops. I have had authors send me copies of their book like without asking for it, and then I never get around to it. I have also had it happen a few times on NetGalley. If I ask for a copy via NetGalley or groups where indie authors are looking for reviews, I do my best to review the book. Except when I went on a request binge on NetGalley and requested a Christian romance, and I’m not religious so I didn’t read that one. I just left a vague review because I didn’t want my ratio to drop. Yikes, add another naughty thing to my list.

• Have less than 60% feedback rating on Netgalley

I’m currently around 80 %. I have worked so hard on my ratio because it was low for awhile. Right now I have 20 books to read on there with about 6 pending so we will see what happens soon. But for now, I’m doing well with this.

• Rated a book on goodreads and promised a full review was to come on your blog (and never did)

We are only human, right? I did this moreso when I was writing reviews for fun, and I did not have a blog. Now I try to do reviews whenever I can because I want to be honest about books I’m reading while also sharing my reviews with more people. I do it for my blog, too. I enjoy sharing my thoughts on books which is why I finally decided to do a blog this year as an actual venture I’m trying to stick with.

• Folded down the page of a book

I know, I’m a monster. I’ve done it to library books, which is worse. I am trying to get better so I have like 1200 bookmarks all around my house and in books so I’m forced to use them.

• Accidentially spilled on a book

I have done this with food, drink, and sneezes. The worst was last year when I was pregnant and was eating a tangerine and the juice squirted all over a brand new library book. So I had to blow dry the pages and flatten it out so the book wasn’t ruined. Now I try to be extra careful in general. Sometimes Ever tries to chew on my library books, but I keep them out of his reach for now.

• DNF a book this year

Ummmm… I’m guilty of this. I don’t have much to say except I’m more busy now with Ever so when I have time to read, I wanna enjoy what I read fully. I will force myself to finish books sometimes, but I’m learning DNFing is my friend too.

• Bought a book purely because it was pretty with no intention of reading it

I don’t understand the hype of having 5 different copies of the same book just because they look nice. If it works for other people, awesome. I’m just too broke to do that.

• Read whilst you were meant to be doing something else (like homework)

I’m still supposed to be preparing for grad school deadline in like eight days, and I’ve been to anxious so I’m reading all of the time instead.

• Skim read a book

Books can get boring, but I kinda wanna know what happened. So I skim read.

• Completely missed your Goodreads goal

I’ve hit my goal the last few years I’ve done it, and I’m proud of myself for that.

• Borrowed a book and not returned it

I would be mad if this happened to me, so I would never do this to anyone else. I forgot to return a library book when I moved to a new town, but when I moved back I returned it immediately. So I guess kind of but not really?

• Broke a book buying ban

Back when I had money to buy books, I would do it all the time. Now I just use the library or get free ones from Kindle.

• Started a review, left it for ages then forgot what the book was about

Once I start writing a review, I have to finish it all of the way or I’d be annoyed with myself. I just knock them out as soon as I’m able so it’s fresh in my mind and I don’t have to do it later when I forget pertinent information.

• Wrote in a book you were reading

We used to have to annotate certain books when I was in college. I don’t do this now though.

• Finished a book and not added it to your Goodreads

I’m not a monster! This would bother me way too much. I’m anxious just thinking about it.

I’m am a lot more naughty than nice. Yikes. Guess I’ll be getting coal this year…

A clean copy:

• Received an ARC and not reviewed it

• Have less than 60% feedback rating on Netgalley

• Rated a book on goodreads and promised a full review was to come on your blog (and never did)

• Folded down the page of a book

• Accidentially spilled on a book

• DNF a book this year

• Bought a book purely because it was pretty with no intention of reading it

• Read whilst you were meant to be doing something else (like homework)

• Skim read a book

• Completely missed your Goodreads goal

• Borrowed a book and not returned it

• Broke a book buying ban

• Started a review, left it for ages then forgot what the book was about

• Wrote in a book you were reading

• Finished a book and not added it to your Goodreads

I tag anyone who sees this and is interested. I’d love to see it when you do so link me below or comment if you’ll be doing this tag. It’s so much fun!

Autumn Chills [Book Tag]

I was tagged by Leelyn @ Sometimes Leelyn Reads to do this tag. Thank you so much, sweet person! (I use gender neutral terminology since I’m unsure of pronouns).

Thank you to Sam @ Fictionally Sam and Clo @ Cuppa Clo for hosting this year’s Bookending Autumn 2019.

Today’s prompt is hosted by Chiara @ Bookworms Anonymous!

An Original Book Tag

But what would a booktag be if I didn’t lay down some rules.

  1. Remember to tag me back
  2. Tag a load of people at the end
  3. Have fun doing it

1. Pick 2 books from different genres which give you the same feeling.

Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen

Harry Potter by JK Rowling.

I am not sure how to explain the feeling, but these books just linger in my mind. Like, they make me happy. These are books I could read again and again, never getting sick of them. These are the books I automatically think of when it comes to rereads and comforting books even though they are nothing alike.

2. What book would you read to keep you warm on a cold autumn day?

This is a good question… I didn’t know books could keep me warm unless I was burning them for warmth. But I am joking. I promise I would never hurt books. I guess since I don’t want to repeat myself, I pick anything by Sarah Dessen pre 2010. Her older works just get me warm happy feelings of being young. So I would use any of those to stay warm.

3. What book would you read to chase away the ghosts and ghouls?

Percy Jackson. Any of those books would make me feel safe and happy. I couldn’t imagine any creepy things lingering when it comes to Percy Jackson. I think it’s just those demigod vibes that chase away all bad things, even if being a demigod can also be a bad thing.

4. Name a character/book that:

a. Made you feel frosty

Aunt Lydia in The Testaments. I know she is not a character you are meant to like, but I was just super annoyed by her the whole book. I didn’t care about her backstory or what she did. I just can’t forget all the bad things she did in the television show I just want to punch her in the face.

b. Made you want to take a long walk through freshly fallen leaves

Maven Calore from Red Queen series. I know he’s evil and everyone hates him. But there’s something about him I’m dying to know about. I want to know what he could have become or what his plans would have been for Mare. I know it seems dark, but it would just be so interesting to have a conversation with him.

c. You would share your umbrella with

Ummm. I just keep thinking of the Rihanna song. Umbrellaaaa ☂ . If I had to choose, I think I would pick Rhys from ACOTAR. He’s super attractive, and I think I wouldn’t mind enjoying his wingspan. 🦇

I tag:

And anyone else who reads this! So, YOU, if you’re reading this. I’d love to see your answers so please share if you end up doing this tag.

Try A Chapter [Library Book Edition]

I know Try A Chapter comes from YouTube, but I found my inspiration to finally try it from Ally.

Apparently this is the OG video on the tag.

So I have five library books, and I’m going to try each one to see which I’ll keep and which I’ll be returning to the library.

This round of library books includes:

So I’ll be reading the first chapter of each one and deciding which ones will stay and go (I’ve finished Whisper Network and am currently reading The Testaments so those aren’t included).

The Boy and Girl Who Broke The World- I was not interested at all. It starts out with a fantasy book and talks about a crumbling town. I like those books as non fiction… the crumbling economy ones… but I just don’t think this is the right book for me. I don’t care about a town rivalry, a rock star, or just the apparent end of the world vibe this book has going on.

Scars Like Wings- I’m looking forward to this book. It’s about a girl who was burned, and now she’s told she needs to figure out her life and not hide away anymore. I’ve seen this advertised on Goodreads and someone suggested it to me. I feel like I’m going to really like this story.

All Our Broken Pieces- I can’t wait for this one. I like stories where people are brought together. The first chapter has Kyler building a football field on his front lawn to spite his dad. Also, there’s a mention of Kurt Cobain so that’s honestly the reason I’m keeping the book to read. I like Nirvana that much.

A Match Made In Mehendi- I got the same vibes I get from reading other books from Indian authors like Sandhya Menon. I laughed a few times in the first chapter, which I think is a great sign.

The Grace Year- I didn’t really read the first chapter because it was long. I picked this one for the title, but then when I was skimming, I lost interest. But then I just looked on Goodreads and apparently it’s really awesome so I’m reading it. Probably. But most likely not. I don’t know. Guess we will see.

Lady Smoke- I need to read this one anyway. I knew I would read it no matter what. I really liked the first book so I’m expecting good things from the second. I tried to read it before and stopped because the author is apparently problematic. But I want to read this book so I’m going to.

This is genuinely a fun way to see if a book is worth it. Yes, I know books can get worse or better when you read on. But I think this is a great system for library books since you can just return them so someone else can enjoy them. So I will probably be doing this again soon with some library books.

Have you ever done Try A Chapter Tag? If it’s something you’re interested in, give it a try. It’s so much fun! And if you do so, let me know so I can check out your post.
