I didn’t read a lot this past week. I still need to catch up on some eARCs on NetGalley. I did get all of the ones I needed done on time though. It’s nice way to watch my percentage go up instead of fall though. I did kind of make a poor choice, and I requested 26 romance books on NetGalley. I was approved for three. Guess we’ll see what happens with the others.
Here are all the books I read this week, complete with what Ethan thinks each of them are about.
What Ethan thinks this book is about: Groupie chick falls in love with rockstar. He dumps her and she gets mad.
My rating and thoughts: 3 stars.
It’s been done before. The trope of bad boy and good girl. I don’t mind the brothers best friend trope, that’s one of my favorite ones. I’m just tired of smart girl suddenly becomes enamored with the hot dude who is right down the hall from her. That’s exactly what this story is.
Haley moves in with her brother and his best friend. The best friend is named Cade and he is a man whore. He sleeps with a lot of women. Of course, he’s mean at first to Haley but eventually gets attached to her. However, Haley has a boyfriend named Adam. He is the nice guy, but he wears a lot of cologne.
But of course Adam is a bad dude and Cade saves the day so Haley is like, I’m going to fall in love with Cade. Of course, there’s more to the story but I don’t want to discuss spoilers.
The parts of the story I highlighted were about how perfect Cade was and how sexy. There was a lot about smells. I’m not sure if Haley is just like a blood hound but she was so obsessed with Adams cologne and then how Cade smelled. One specific line was, I can smell that fresh scent. I would be happy if this is the only scent I ever smell again. I’m not sure why it bothered me so much, but there was way too much about olfactory references.
The smut aspect of the book wasn’t bad, but it didn’t appeal to me too much in this story.
This author just wasn’t for me. This would work well for someone just starting out reading new adult or doesn’t mind the same old tropes overly done. I did enjoy how Cade was written. The ending just seemed rushed. Also, do not read the synopsis of the second book unless you want spoilers. What Ethan thinks this book is about: Two really depressed drug addicts in recovery meet in halfway house and they relapse at the end and die. My rating and thoughts: 4 stars.
Jess and Alex have a fair amount of parallels in their lives. Both are dealing with the loss of loved ones, career changes, and living in London. It’s a new start for each. Both are determined to lead their own lives and avoid relationships since they both had prior ones end poorly. So they resolve to be friends. They are also living in a shared house with a no couples rule… of course they aren’t going to fall in love, right?
This book contains a lot of cute elements. Jess loves romantic movies and has this sweet relationship with her grandmother. Jess was raised by her grandmother and even posts on Instagram so she can see her granddaughters life in London. It’s a cute story, but it’s more of a friendship between Jess and Alex most of the time. It’s a really slow burn Christmas romance, I suppose.
Overall, a super cute story. I really like how it describes London so well. I would recommend this for anyone who wants a quick, sweet romance with a little bit of holiday. I would read more from this author. What Ethan thinks the book is about: Story about the Dalmatian and how he likes winter and snow.
My rating: 3 stars. You can find my full review here.
Well. This was my week in reading. Feels good to have some of my NetGalley books caught up. I’m feeling good with my September Swoons Reads. I’m so excited to share those with you at the end of the month. How’s your wrap up for the week looking? Or how about just your Reads so far since September is halfway over ? (!!!)
Until I rant about books again,
