Weekly Wrap Up [September 30-October 5th]

I didn’t actually complete as many books this week as I have been. I took a much needed break from NetGalley, and I have been reading books from Kindle Unlimited and books I own which I’ve had for ages. It’s just been an off week because I was watching some Hulu, but I think with Ethan being off work, I didn’t read as much since I don’t normally get to spend a lot of time with him. So I’ll just update you on the book I read this week and the books I’m currently reading. This won’t be much of a post, but I hope to have a better post next week.

Genre: Thriller

Rating: 4/5 Stars

My full review is available.

I am currently reading:

I’m liking this first book so far. I’m very interested in the manifestation of powers and how the politics of the land will play out.

I started this on audio because some friends were reading it as well. It’s a piece of trash full of dumb tropes, and I hate it. Of course I’m going to complete listening, but I just have a lot of issues to complain about in regard to this series.

I like this one, but I also am kind of cringing at certain elements. The enemies to lovers is so freaking strong, and I understand high school kids can have sex and behave this way. I just think I would have liked this book better if it was set in more of an adult setting rather than high school. I blame this on me getting old but still wanting decent new adult books, too.

I’m hoping to finish all these current books this week and possibly add a few more. But I also want to watch a lot of The Goldbergs so I don’t know what’s going to happen with reading once I decide to turn on Hulu. I’m weak, okay?

I’d love to hear about what you read this week and what your upcoming plans are for books. I’m enjoying Blogtober too. It’s quite fun. I can’t wait for Blogmas.

Until I rant about books again,

2019 DNFs [So Far]

I know book reviews and wrap ups are great. But I’m also trying to write other posts which could be interesting. I used to not be someone who DNFs books, but I have too many books to read at this point. Not to mention, I have a five and a half month old so my reading time is precious to me. I DNFd 15 (!!) Books this year. So far.

I used to push through books but now I just DNF them. That’s easier. Sometimes I just remove them completely and don’t even count them to DNF if I just read a short bit. It’s how I make my reading system work for me.

I got this book from booksirens. It was much too sci-fi for me, I just couldn’t get into the premise. I would say it would be great for YA sci-fi fans. Just not for me.

Another book from booksirens. The problem with this book is I did not enjoy the romance. I was like three chapters in and the main character was being asked by her potential love interest to show him her goodies. This was so he would agree to fake marry her. I couldn’t stop rolling my eyes so I decided no.

The dialogue in this YA book was too simplistic. It seems like it was meant more for tweens. I liked the message of being eco conscious with clothes and such. I also didn’t love the gay best friend being a stereotype.

Just another new adult romance I couldn’t get into. I think my issue was yet another cliche romance I wasn’t feeling. This seems to happen a lot with the office romance books to me.

This is about two people who meet after bad relationships and fall in love. It just was not interesting. I felt like nothing was going to happen so I just ended up being unable to finish the book at 75%.

The narrator was a mess in this book. And I just was so upset when I read reviews to see if other people shared my thoughts. I want to avoid spoilers, but I don’t understand the appeal of this book.Didn’t like the language and structure of the book. I only made it ten pages in before I gave up.

I thought this was going to be an adorable romance. It was a Christian romance though so it wasn’t for me. The story had cute aspects, but I’m not religious so the book wasn’t the right fit for me.

I read this while I was being induced and dealing with a newborn. I wasn’t about a really long book regarding dragons I found super boring so I just put it down. I am not a huge adult fantasy fan. I do love Samantha Shannon’s other series though… I can’t wait for the last book. It’s been so long…

This book was too dry for me. I also think I had issues reading it because I was pregnant with a boy at the time. Not that I’m worried about Ever becoming like the child in the book, but I just couldn’t deal with the narrator incessantly going on and on. I plan to try again in the future with this one since I have heard it’s worth the time. I will probably do it on audio.

I only tried up to page 50, but I didn’t feel any desire to read this book. I thought the forensics and setting could keep me going, but I did not care. Also, the spoilers I read about annoyed me. Maybe I’ll try this again someday, but I have other books to read so this will be a did not finish for now.

This book was annoying at the start when the main character went on and on about being a social media influencer. Then it got worse when the love interest when mmm juicy ass and she walked in on the guy just grabbing his balls while he was naked.it was supposed to be like some cute story, but I was super turned off so no thanks.

I just saw this as a bad rip off of The Kiss Quotient, but just bad. It was so dry and uninteresting. The reviews also aren’t great.

I just was not in a good mindset to read this book… it’s about homelessness and mental illness. I know it’s going to be a good book, but I have been reading a lot of romance so it just doesn’t work currently. I will probably pick up a copy from Amazon soon though.

And those are all-of the books I have put on my DNF list for now. I’m hoping the rest of 2019 is just filled with good reads but I’m currently in a reading slump so guess I shall see what the rest of the month will bring…

Until I rant about books again,

Is Kindle Unlimited Worth It? [To me, yes!]

I enjoy reading as much as I can. I love going to the library and getting a big stack of books. I love choosing a book off my shelf and getting lost in a story. That being said, I haven’t had time to go to the library and I have a few piles of unread books on my shelf. Or near my shelf. Don’t ask. But I also have a five and a half month old which sometimes leaves less room to read books easily. Hence, I’ve been using the Kindle app on my phone and iPad. I also use Libby, but I don’t love the romance choices my library has to offer right now. So when I was given a chance to sign up for two months of Kindle Unlimited for just 99 cents, I said hell yes.

What’s the appeal of Kindle Unlimited for me?

  • I don’t have to buy the books
  • I can check out up to 10 books at one time
  • I can read on my phone or iPad and whisper sync keeps me right where I left off.
  • There’s so many romance choices.
  • Ebooks are easier for me right now with the baby, and I just really love ebooks.

The other nice things about Kindle Unlimited so you can just cancel at any time. So if I decide I’m not using it enough, I can just let it go. Then again, I can pick it back up if I miss it too much. I also have Prime, but I haven’t looked into Prime Reading or Kindle First yet. I’m just too excited about the books I’ve got to read from Kindle Unlimited. I currently do have ten books out because I’m insatiable, but I just wanted to share a few I’m most excited about from what I’ve added to my KU library

Book one of The Mavericks series by Max Monroe. This was a cover pick, but I did enjoy her book My Brothers Billionaire Best Friend so I am anticipating this will be another fun read. Just with athletes instead, and I never mind a good sports book.

Privileged by Carrie Aarons was suggested to me by Steph from Steph’s Romance Book Talk, and you can find her YouTube channel here. She’s awesome, and she reads a lot of romance so if you want awesome romance books in your life, check out her channel.

Chandler Ainsley did an enemies to lovers recommendation video on her channel, and this book was on the list. She said it was a problematic book, but she didn’t care and enjoyed the book. You should check out her channel in general and because she does Kindle Unlimited recommendation videos as well.

These are the books I’m most excited to read on Kindle Unlimited. I have just started Privileged, and I’m hoping this helps to get me out of this reading slump.

This post was inspired by Bree from Falling From Romance talking about her own journey with KU. Find her post here.

I’m pretty sure I’ll be sticking with KU and reading so much romance. If you have any KU recommendations, let me know. I’m always open to more.

September Swoons TBR and Current Reads

So the month of September is going to be a deep dive into the romance genre for me. It’s one I used to read as a teenager. Yeah, I read those Harlequin Romance books when I was a tween and young teen. Mostly the purple mystery ones. I was so addicted to those back in the day. I’m not sure why I got away from romance because it’s a great genre. The best part is I don’t even have to buy any books because I have a lot of romance books on my Kindle. I actually added 16 books to a collection for this month. I don’t know if I will get through that many, but here are 10 books I’ve planned out for September Swoons. I will also be reading some other books as well… but those will be talked about in my weekly wrap ups.

Some of these are eARCs. The rest are books I’ve had on my Kindle.

  • All I Want- Tamara Lush (eArc)
  • To Be Your Girl -Rae Kennedy (eArc)
  • We Met in December- Rosie Curtis (eArc)
  • Meant to Be- Melody Grace
  • A Girl Like Her- Talia Hubbard
  • From Scratch- Katrina Jackson
  • Cracked Kingdom- Erin Watt
  • The Perfect Game- J Sterling
  • Challenge-Amy Daws
  • Step Brother Dearest- Penelope Ward

And these are the books I’m currently reading:
