Goodreads Monday [September 30]

Goodreads Monday is a weekly meme that was started by @Lauren’s Page Turners. The meme is pretty easy to follow, to participate simply choose a random book from your TBR and explain why you want to read it!

Here’s the book of the day…

Synopsis:

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
Two starcrossed magicians engage in a deadly game of cunning in The Night Circus, the spellbinding bestseller that has captured the world’s imagination.

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.

But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway: a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them both, this is a game in which only one can be left standing. Despite the high stakes, Celia and Marco soon tumble headfirst into love, setting off a domino effect of dangerous consequences, and leaving the lives of everyone, from the performers to the patrons, hanging in the balance.

I’ve had this book on my TBR for so long. I think I picked it up because everyone was talking about it or I liked the cover. I know it’s a book people have mixed feelings on. I constantly say I’m going to read it yet I still haven’t even tried? I guess we will see if I do get to this book anytime soon or not. It looks like I will love it. Someday I will read it… I swear.

What is on your Goodreads shelf to read? If anyone is doing this, I would love to see your book choice so I can add more books to my own TBR.

Until I rant about books again,

2019 DNFs [So Far]

I know book reviews and wrap ups are great. But I’m also trying to write other posts which could be interesting. I used to not be someone who DNFs books, but I have too many books to read at this point. Not to mention, I have a five and a half month old so my reading time is precious to me. I DNFd 15 (!!) Books this year. So far.

I used to push through books but now I just DNF them. That’s easier. Sometimes I just remove them completely and don’t even count them to DNF if I just read a short bit. It’s how I make my reading system work for me.

I got this book from booksirens. It was much too sci-fi for me, I just couldn’t get into the premise. I would say it would be great for YA sci-fi fans. Just not for me.

Another book from booksirens. The problem with this book is I did not enjoy the romance. I was like three chapters in and the main character was being asked by her potential love interest to show him her goodies. This was so he would agree to fake marry her. I couldn’t stop rolling my eyes so I decided no.

The dialogue in this YA book was too simplistic. It seems like it was meant more for tweens. I liked the message of being eco conscious with clothes and such. I also didn’t love the gay best friend being a stereotype.

Just another new adult romance I couldn’t get into. I think my issue was yet another cliche romance I wasn’t feeling. This seems to happen a lot with the office romance books to me.

This is about two people who meet after bad relationships and fall in love. It just was not interesting. I felt like nothing was going to happen so I just ended up being unable to finish the book at 75%.

The narrator was a mess in this book. And I just was so upset when I read reviews to see if other people shared my thoughts. I want to avoid spoilers, but I don’t understand the appeal of this book.Didn’t like the language and structure of the book. I only made it ten pages in before I gave up.

I thought this was going to be an adorable romance. It was a Christian romance though so it wasn’t for me. The story had cute aspects, but I’m not religious so the book wasn’t the right fit for me.

I read this while I was being induced and dealing with a newborn. I wasn’t about a really long book regarding dragons I found super boring so I just put it down. I am not a huge adult fantasy fan. I do love Samantha Shannon’s other series though… I can’t wait for the last book. It’s been so long…

This book was too dry for me. I also think I had issues reading it because I was pregnant with a boy at the time. Not that I’m worried about Ever becoming like the child in the book, but I just couldn’t deal with the narrator incessantly going on and on. I plan to try again in the future with this one since I have heard it’s worth the time. I will probably do it on audio.

I only tried up to page 50, but I didn’t feel any desire to read this book. I thought the forensics and setting could keep me going, but I did not care. Also, the spoilers I read about annoyed me. Maybe I’ll try this again someday, but I have other books to read so this will be a did not finish for now.

This book was annoying at the start when the main character went on and on about being a social media influencer. Then it got worse when the love interest when mmm juicy ass and she walked in on the guy just grabbing his balls while he was naked.it was supposed to be like some cute story, but I was super turned off so no thanks.

I just saw this as a bad rip off of The Kiss Quotient, but just bad. It was so dry and uninteresting. The reviews also aren’t great.

I just was not in a good mindset to read this book… it’s about homelessness and mental illness. I know it’s going to be a good book, but I have been reading a lot of romance so it just doesn’t work currently. I will probably pick up a copy from Amazon soon though.

And those are all-of the books I have put on my DNF list for now. I’m hoping the rest of 2019 is just filled with good reads but I’m currently in a reading slump so guess I shall see what the rest of the month will bring…

Until I rant about books again,

NetGalley TBR

I’ve had a lot of books from NetGalley just chilling on my Kindle, and I know I should read them. I requested them, and I’m not reading them. I probably should be though so my percentage can go up and I can get more books. I suddenly just want to read romance on Kindle Unlimited but I need to get through these eight (!) books first.

Christmas book. From Avon Books UK. Looks like it’s going to be adorable.Christmas one again from Avon Books UK. I’m feeling hopeful just from the blurb. I think it will be quaint and lovely,

I think I’ve heard good things about this book, but I’m probably thinking of a book with a similar title.

I think this is a YA contemporary or New Adult. The cover caught my attention. I’m excited this one, so I am going to stay positive.

This sounds like the Paula Hawkins book just because of the title. So I am looking forward to this even though it’s book five in a series.

My nickname is Magpie because my name is Maggie so that’s why I chose this book. I think it’s a thriller, also yet another from Avon Books UK.

YA book from Durden Press. Not sure what it’s about.

Fun beach romance. Looks like fun. I’m addicted to romance lately, I’m betting it’s going to be a good time.

…and those are the eight NetGalley books I need to get through. Wish me luck. I’m delighted for all the Christmas romances, even though I’m ready only for Halloween at this point.

Which books do you have from NetGalley? Anyone read any of these?

Classics I Need to Read

Catch me doing my Saturday post on Sunday because I’m total garbage. I didn’t even know what to do so I had people vote on a twitter poll, and it’s classics I need to read. I’m sure the list would be extensive if I just went on and on. But I’m going off my Goodreads want to read with the classics I’ve had on my TBR for a loong time. Without further ado, here are the classics I need to read.

Pride and Prejudice has been on my TBR for so long… I just need to read it finally. Plain and simple.
This was one of my favorite childhood movies. I’ve had this cute edition of the book for so long. I want to read it even though I know the story so damn well.
Pretty sure I just got this because one of my favorite BookTube people read it or was going to. I’ll pretty much read anything she suggests because I love her.
Also another book I probably added due to April. I think it’s a creepy book? I’m not sure. Guess I’ll find out when I read it… someday.
This is one I wanted to read after I learned about Harriet Jacobs reading something else. So I bought the book and it’s been rotting on my Kindle app. Oops

These are the classics I’ve been meaning to read for ages. I recently read Frankenstein, and I did enjoy it. I’m just not a huge fan of classics so it’s a bit of a struggle for me. I sometimes feel like an inadequate reader since I tend to read YA, romance, thrillers, etc. I need to break from this mindset.

What classics have you read recently? Are there any you want to read? Let me know.!
